How Christmas Pudding came to be:
Plum Pudding dates back to medieval time. It has its origins in
a 14th Century porridge made by boiling beef and mutton with dried
fruit. It evolved over the years and by the 18th Century was firmly
established as part of the Christmas feast.
The recipes we use today date back to Victorian times. The story
goes that the pudding was made on "stir up Sunday", the first Sunday
of Advent. Each member of the family had to stir the mixture for
luck and make three wishes. In addition Silver charms were put in
to ward off evil.
